washing basket mend

We still don't have a washing basket in our new house because I refuse to buy a plastic one. This means that we have to carry our wet washing out to the line in any manner possible, risking the clean clothes to fall on the ground.
This basket has come from somewhat recently deceased grandparent's house. The handles were broken but the body of the basket seems fine. I've taken them off completely. Now my plan is to crochet around the top edge. Later I shall crochet handles, although my other half says it's not necessary. I'll keep working on it another day, as today it has made my eyes hurt. But I did enjoy listening to Re: Dracula whilst working!
